Petition to Save Gwendolyn the Pig, Resident of Prince Georges County Maryland.
Here she is, this is Gwendolyn "Description: Prince George's County, Maryland has told Pat Brown to get rid of her 20-year-old potbelly pig, Gwendolyn, a death sentence since a pig this old cannot be moved from her home. The appeal is pending, date unknown, and a PG official has already stated Pat Brown will not win. Please help fight the PG Pigsecution of Gwendolyn!" This 20 yr old Pot Bellied Pig has only known one family, and the County rules here in Maryland have now been changed so that they want to have Gwendolyn removed from her environment. All of the neighbors are fine with her being there.
Please sign this petition so this can be rewritten, Gwendolyn is grandfathered in and the issue is dropped and this Animal & her Family can stay together!" Maybe we can get a new law passed called "Gwendolyn's Law" and it can be a reassessed, updated ammendment to the County, and State of Maryland and other states that include people dealing with this issue and other animals that may not be considered "traditional" but at the same time not harmful to society or others. Pat Brown's Facebook Group: Please Join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&gid=239206895328 You can comment directly to the county at this customer message form:

Sparkle needs new home after her owner passed away last week. She was in the hospital
just being diagnosed as diabetic when he passed away. She is a special
needs dog at 10 because she needs 2 injections- and a careful diet. My sister and I have been giving the shots- and she does
not react at all. Can you help us save Sparkle? She must,
though, be an only pet (dog). She is a little Diva girl and literally
sat on my Dad's lap and made him happy for 3 years- since he rescued her before. She followed him everywhere, guarded him
intently and was his pride and joy. Please, can you help us save her? We
will pay ALL medical expenses but want her to have the kind of home he would have wanted for her. Dayna Silberman 301-881-1651
![]() This Just In! An Update from the Field …. Dear Members and Friends, We received this update from our colleagues who were in Missouri this past Saturday, picking up ‘throwaway’ dogs from puppy mills, dogs who would otherwise be sold at auction or killed. This is the second transport of our ongoing Pup My Ride program, in which we are getting dogs out of puppy mills and taking them to areas where they’ll be sure to find a home … their very first! These kinds of miracles would not happen without your generous support. We need your help to make sure the dogs
we’re rescuing get to where they deserve to be! For every $50 we raise, one dog will be lifted out of the misery and will start a new chapter full of adventure and happiness. Your dollars go to help transport unwanted puppy mill dogs to shelters and rescue groups
where they will be spayed or neutered, given medical care and placed in forever homes. To find out up to the minute news on this current rescue, please visit our site. Every dog deserves love, good care, and lots of fun. Give a special gift to save dogs living in puppy mills today! From the field on Saturday… “Wanted to send a quick update to let you know how things are going out here in MO. The short version is, really well! The team is great--we've got about 15 staff and volunteers here. You should all be very proud of the people you have here in the field. They are all working hard and doing a great job, like a well-oiled machine. We have about 40 dogs here now, and are getting 47 more from one woman (who has 1,000 dogs) and then there will be 12 more coming this evening. Three more stops tomorrow and we're on target for the 150 dogs and puppies expected from the beginning. Many of the dogs we have now are older and/or special needs. We're seeing the typical issues of bad teeth, bad skin, cloudy eyes… one little poodle has no lower jaw, and two dogs (a maltese and Cocker) have huge inguinal hernias. We have five puppies that were returned by the broker for various reasons-- three cockapoo puppies that apparently aren't "poo" enough (they look like purebred cocker spaniels) and two other “designer” breeds. We're in a lull now as we wait for the 47 to arrive. I think it will be the last lull until we're on the drive!” Remember, the very latest on these special dogs as well as a video of our latest rescue is on our website. Thank you for all that you do to help vulnerable animals! The staff and animals of Best Friends Animal Society P.S. Please forward this email to your friends and family to help spread the word about this issue and the work of Best Friends. As more people understand the link between puppy mills and pet stores, more people are opting for adopting, diminishing business for puppy mills. Commercial breeders are handing over more dogs than we can transport at one time. That’s why we need your help so we can continue these transports on a regular basis

8/5/09: KY Flood Swamps Shelter - 600 Animals Evacuated Volunteers/Supplies Needed
8/4/09: Vickie Mahoney, a volunteer at the shelter six days a week, carried out the last dog from the flooded shelter. She said the animals are like her babies. (By Pam Spauldng, The Courier-Journal) ================================================================== 1. 600 Flood Evacuated Animals (+ Others) Need Aid SOURCE: 8/4/09, Shelter flooded, some animals drown http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20090804/PETS/908040343/1008/rss01 PRESENT SITUATION / NOTES: Flooding drowned 10 kittens and one dog in their cages at Louisville Metro Animal Services shelter 8/4/09. Director Giles Meloche led an effort to rescue animals and then supervised the transfer of about 250 dogs and 300 cats from the shelter to temporary housing at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. [NO animals remain at the water-soaked shelter]. "The water came up so fast," Meloche said. "It went from three inches to three feet in about 30 minutes." Capt. Wayne Zelinsky, an officer with Animal Services, said about 20 people worked frantically to save the animals as the water rose. "By the time we got to the (second) building, the dogs' heads were the only thing above water," Zelinsky said. Meloche said kittens who drowned were on the floor and couldn't climb above rising water, as their mother did. He said he wasn't sure of circumstances surrounding the dog's drowning. The dog was found dead. Spokeswoman Jackie Gulbe said it is unclear when they can be returned to the shelter. ================================================================== 2. Thoroughbred Placement and Rescue, Inc In 2008, we placed a little over 150 horses. The main goal of Thoroughbred Placement and
Rescue, Inc. is to provide racing owners and trainers in the mid-atlantic region, a way to reach people who want show and
riding horses. In this way, we can direct retiring racehorses into the right hands. We assist horsemen in placing their retired
racehorses into good homes so they can enjoy meaningful, productive lives when their racing careers are over. These horses
will avoid ending up in the slaughter pipeline and suffering an unspeakable end. ![]()

A homeless man and his dog were living in a car until a week ago when his car broke down and left him totally stranded. The Christiansburg (VA) Baptist Church have been helping him, but now they are reaching out for additional help. Lee adores his dog, Little Bit, however, the dog is badly in need of medical care which Lee can't provide. Currently no shelter in the area can be found that accepts dogs, plus Little Bit needs medical attention. I'm asking you all to please help us help this man

6/13/08: Katrina/NOLA Rescuer Dead. Her Animals Need Help! FROM KINSHIP CIRCLE: We are shocked and dismayed by the untimely death of devoted New Orleans rescuer, Linda Potts. For the last 15 or more years of her life, Linda trapped, rescued and brought hope to homeless animals. Please help Linda’s surviving companion animals...and/or forward this to others. Kinship Circle ALERT FROM / REPLY TO: Charlotte Bass, table25@bellsouth.net Linda Potts, longtime rescuer and resident of New Orleans' Holy Cross 9th ward neighborhood, was found dead in her gutted home on June 11, 2008. Linda volunteered for ARNO as a feeder/trapper and assisted many other New Orleans area rescue organizations with assistance in the field. Linda, age 49, lived with her pets in a FEMA trailer next to her gutted home. Her death was officially classified as death from 'natural causes' as police report that there was no evidence of foul play. There seems to be conflicting opinions from neighbors -- as well as suspect evidence found at the death scene -- but the important thing right now is to get Linda's pets rescued and into foster or permanent homes. LINDA’S LEFT-BEHIND BABIES... CAN YOU FOSTER OR ADOPT? Currently five animals are being held at the LA/SPCA and have been transferred in name to ARNO's foster/adoption program. We thank the LA/SPCA for allowing these pets to be housed for one week at their facilities. It is paramount we move these pets to foster homes quickly, as LA/SPCA and ARNO have zero space at their respective shelters. 1. Blackie Large...a handsome black lab who is just waiting for his next command... a good, good dog. 2. Lucky Small...a precious white terrier mix, who reportedly is on daily heart meds. Scared, shaking a little, but sweet... just doesn't know what is happening. 3. Dixie or Trixie (uncertain about name) Medium...a beautiful cream/red color, not sure of her name yet, a sweet, but scared girl who obviously misses her Mom. Possibly a collie mix? 4. Tuffy Large...will be the toughest to place... This old man is blind (no eyes), and almost deaf. He is just an old, handsome pit mix. He was protective of Linda while living in the FEMA trailer, but seems to be quite gentlemanly at the shelter with strangers handling him. I am not sure Tuffy gets along well with other dogs, as Linda never left him alone with the others. 5. The only cat... ...Though there was a black one whom the police saw run away... This guy is not exactly happy, but we all know how cats can be... He looks nice and healthy, too. I will try to find out his name. TO FOSTER OR ADOPT ANY OF LINDA’S PETS, CONTACT ARNO: Charlotte Bass Lilly, ARNO http://www.animalrescueneworleans.org 504-522-0222 desk & voice mail 504-289-2777 cell (no voice mail, but text away) OR Robin Beaulieu, ARNO Shelter Director 504-913-2328 cell & voice mail (texting is fine, too) These pets have been through a traumatic event, had no contact with anyone for at least two days, then were picked up when the police called it in. Please help if you can...so Linda can rest in peace... - When cross-posting INCLUDE PHOTOS so people can see these sweet peas. - If you’re fostering and not able, ARNO will list these pets on PetFinder, and we’ll help any way we can. - We’re trying to find the vet who has their records, but if they need inoculations or health certificates we’ll gladly do this at no charge for anyone willing to foster or adopt. - We will also neuter the males after we have a foster or permanent home. - All medicals at our vets included with accepting a pet into your home. - No adoption charge, but an application and vet reference are required. - Rescue groups: We’ll need a copy of your adoption application, contract and vet reference. for the animals, always, Charlotte Bass Lilly ![]()
